Chillers – good 4 u (Olivia Rodrigo)

Welcome to Chillers, the ongoing series where we take a look at songs that give me goosebumps. Beginning in 2026, new entries will be posted weekly on WordPress with an automatic cross-post to Bluesky.

The flagship song off Olivia Rodrigo’s massively popular debut album SOUR, good 4 u fits neatly into the pain, anger, and frustration that define much of her early discography. If there’s a single track that captures teenage angst in its most combustible form, it’s this one.

The song looks back at a breakup where the singer was the one constantly adjusting, bending, and reshaping herself to fit her partner. Now, with hindsight and bitterness working hand in hand, she watches that same partner thrive—seemingly unbothered, seemingly improved—while she’s left sorting through the emotional wreckage. There’s resentment aimed outward, but just as much turned inward. She’s spiraling. He’s stable. And that imbalance is unbearable.

Rodrigo weaponizes that frustration, channeling it into sneering sarcasm rather than clean closure. The title becomes both a dismissal and a defense mechanism, spat through clenched teeth: “Oh, good for you.” It’s not congratulations—it’s venom. A final attempt to regain control when everything else feels lost.

good 4 u doesn’t try to resolve those feelings or offer maturity beyond its years. Instead, it sits in the mess, amplifies it, and lets the anger burn itself out in real time. That honesty is what makes it hit—and what earns it a place among the strongest Chillers entries built on raw emotion rather than reflection.
